Banff Rimrock Hotel

The Banff Rimrock Hotel is a wonderful Banff hotel that enjoys a commanding view and a location immediately next to the Banff Hot Springs. The Rimrock Hotel is located a few kilometers up the Sulphur Mountain road on the way to the Hot Springs. This road is accessed from Banff Avenue by heading directly towards the Park Administration Building, turning left at the T-intersection as you cross the Bow River and then taking your first right, which takes you around the Administration grounds, through a residential neighbourhood and partially up Sulphur Mountain. The hotel is located on the left right before you reach the Hot Springs’ parking lot.

We recently had the opportunity to spend two nights at the Rimrock Hotel and explore the hotel and rediscover all that Banff has to offer. We booked using the Rimrock’s website and received an excellent rate (we also checked Travelocity and Expedia, like any good internet traveler, but found the rates better on the Rimrock’s site). Our very reasonable rate meant that we were in a room that faced out toward the forest (we should have requested a room with a “valley view” – please remember to do that if you book there), but we were just happy to be there. Modern rooms, comfortable beds, a nice pool, hot tub and workout area, a couple of bars and restaurants and a great view from the lobby … what more can you ask for?!

The only downsides to staying at the Rimrock were that we had to pay $15 a day to park in the adjacent parkade, which we felt was a bit of a cash grab from the hotel, and that the hotel is not walkable from Banff Avenue, which only mattered when we were considering having another drink at restaurants on Banff Avenue and would have liked to just walk back to the hotel. All in all, the Rimrock is a very decent hotel with a great view. It does not have the majesty and stature of the Banff Springs Hotel (which you pay for, believe me!), but it is definitely one of the top hotels in Banff.
