Banff Weather

Banff weather is mountain weather! What does that mean? One minute it can be the most beautiful day you have ever experienced and the next minute it can be raining or snowing! Don't worry though, with proper preparations and knowledge of the forecast, you can have a great time in any weather.

CURRENT BANFF WEATHER

AVERAGE TEMPERATURES IN BANFF

The elevation in Banff is 1397 metres (4583 feet) above sea level and 1000kms from the Pacific Ocean, so balmy sea breezes are just not on offer! However, fresh mountain air is available in spades...

Here are some average temperatures taken from The Weather Network's website.

In the prime summer tourist season of May to September, the average daily temperatures in Celsius are as follows:

May - High 14, Low 2
June - High 19, Low 5
July - High 22, Low 7
August - High 22, Low 7
September - High 16, Low 3

During the shoulder and winter ski seasons, the average daily temperatures in Celsius are as follows:

October - High 10, Low 0
November - High 1, Low -7
December - High -4, Low -13
January - High -4, Low -14
February - High 0, Low -10
March - High 4, Low -7
April - High 9, Low -2

PROPER PREPARATIONS FOR ANY CONDITION

The best thing to do to prepare is to pack for a variety of conditions and dress in layers. It is better to wear a t-shirt, sweater and pack a light jacket or windbreaker than just taking a t-shirt and umbrella. The weather can change quickly and unexpectedly. In winter, know the conditions and be prepared to deal with both extreme cold and also, if you are cross-country skiing or doing something else active outdoores, wear layers so that you do not get too sweaty and suffer from exposure.
