Banff Golf Courses
There are a number of excellent Banff golf courses, although restrictions on golf course development in Banff National Park means that the majority of them are actually in Canmore! In any event, the stunning scenery and impeccably kept courses make the Banff-Canmore-Bow Valley golf courses a worthwhile destination in and of themselves.
The golf season runs from approximately late May to October, although the Rocky Mountain location of these courses means that they are subject to greater swings of temperature and more inclement weather than their sister courses to the east in Calgary, so be prepared for the season to be a bit shorter or for snow in any one of the summer months. FAIRMONT BANFF SPRINGS GOLF COURSE The Banff Springs Golf Course is the only one actually located in Banff National Park and can be accessed by headin to the Banff Springs Hotel and following the signs to the golf course. This Banff golf course runs along the Bow River under the watchful eye of Rundle Mountain and the Banff Springs Hotel itself. Herds of elk and deer are not uncommon sights on any of the fairways and greens. The course is a par 71 with an 18 hole course designed by Stanley Thompson, as well as a 9 hole course.
For a truly phenomenal Sunday, consider playing 9 or 18 holes in the morning and then going for Sunday brunch at the Banff Springs Hotel.
SILVERTIP GOLF RESORT Located on the sunny side of Canmore (the eastern side, or to the right of the highway as you head towards Banff), is Silvertip Golf Resort. Waterfalls, trout ponds, and lush fairways surrounded by pine trees and the majestic Rockies make this an absolute must-play course ... with the green fees to match. To get there, take the Canmore exit to the right off of the highway immediately after you see the hotel on the right of the highway as you head to Banff. There is a large Silvertip sign near the hotel that will put you right on the road to Silvertip.
STEWART CREEK GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB Stewart Creek is another fabulous "Banff" golf course located in Canmore near the Three Sisters Mountain Village, which can be accessed via the Three Sisters Parkway from the highway prior to arriving in Canmore. Like Silvertip, Stewart Creek earns its top rating through its excellent design and spectacular setting.
CANMORE GOLF AND CURLING CLUB Despite not charging anywhere near as much for green fees as any of the other courses described above, the Canmore Golf Course is every bit as spectacular. You can reach this 18 hole course by driving down Main Street in Canmore, turning right at the T-intersection and following the signs. This golf course also has a driving range.
