Banff Springs Hotel

When people think of Banff, they think of the Banff Springs Hotel, the iconic luxury hotel that first opened its doors in 1888 and has been treating celebrities, politicians, and many others to luxurious accommodations, fine dining, championship golf courses, and pampering spa treatments since then.

This hotel, along with its sister hotel, the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise (located in Lake Louise, 55km/34mi west of Banff townsite), were originally built by the Canadian Pacific Railway. The current hotel was completed in 1928.

The Banff Springs is a combination of old world luxury with new world amenities and service. The hotel amenities include an excellent spa and health centre, including a huge indoor swimming pool and an outdoor hot pool for guests that wish to stay away from the crowds at the Banff Upper Hot Springs, numerous restaurants and bars, an 18 hole golf course, conference, banquet and wedding facilities, and access to excellent walking, hiking, and ski trails. It is located slightly outside of the main tourist traffic on Banff Avenue and can be reached by heading down Banff Avenue towards the old Park Administration building across the river, turning left at the T-intersection, and just continuing on that road until you run into the hotel, where valets and parking guides will be waiting to either take care of your vehicle for you for a predictable fee or direct you to the parkade, where you can leave your vehicle. If you just want to go rubbernecking and check out the hotel, we would recommend the parkade, but, if you like to live large, valet-away!

The Chateau Lake Louise is another excellent option for those considering staying at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, or as a second stop once you've done the Town of Banff and are looking to enjoy the truly unparalleled scenery of Lake Louise, only a 45 minute drive from Banff.
