Banff Sunshine Village
Banff Sunshine Village is a ski resort with wonderful terrain, spectacular vistas, and a chair lift and run that straddle the continental divide (which also happens to be the border between Alberta and British Columbia). It also happens to only be roughly 15 minutes outside of the Town of Banff. If you ask most Albertans, they will either really love Sunshine Village or really love Lake Louise. Both ski resorts are fabulous, offer different scenery, and are worthy of your ski dollars, however we do caution you regarding two aspects of Sunshine Village: it's proximity to Banff and Calgary means it is more crowded than Lake Louise; and snowboarders should be aware that there are some flat spots in the Sunshine layout that means you will be unstrapping and "skateboarding" a bit to get to the next lift (after the first time, you will know to get more speed the next time).
As Banff's Sunshine Village is relatively close to the town of Banff, you can sleep in and still make it to the hill for first tracks. Here is a map: View Larger Map
