Chateau Lake Louise

The Chateau Lake Louise has it all: beautiful surroundings, gorgeous rooms and amenities, proximity to everyone's favourite skill hill - the Lake Louise Mountain Resort - and seclusion from the hustle and bustle of daily life and Banff Avenue. The Chateau and its surroundings inspire mouths to gape open in awe. For a bird's eye view of the hotel and its surroundings, check out the header picture at the top of this page. The hotel is situated at the bottom of the lake (which is white given that it was covered in snow and ice when this picture was taken).

The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is an excellent place to stay if you plan to explore the Lake Louise-Emerald Lake region or use it as a jumping off point to start out on the Banff-Jasper Parkway (Highway 93), the junction for which is only a few kilometres north on Highway 1.

GETTING THERE

Getting to the Chateau is easy. Simply continue on Highway 1 West (away from Canmore and Calgary) and drive until you see the signs for Lake Louise. Take the exit to the right and cross over the overpass. Drive through the very small town and collection of shops and services that is Lake Louise and continue following the signs to the lake itself and the hotel. There is ample parking for day trippers.

HIKES AND TEA HOUSES

One excellent feature for summer hikers and guests at the Chateau is to hike to the Lake Agnes tea house or the Plain of the Six Glaciers tea house. Both are rustic cabins that offer tea, coffee, and lunch fare and are ideal stopping points for exploring the area around the lake. If you are standing in front of the hotel (between the hotel and the lake), walk to your right to find the signs that mark the trails to both tea houses. Both trails are well used, but still require sturdy footwear. As always when hiking in the Rockies, be prepared with water, some snacks, good footwear, and rain gear.
